Local Employment Access Partnership

What is the Local Employment Access Partnership? The Local Employment Access Partnership (LEAP) is a collaborative group of agencies from public, private and community sectors working to reduce barriers to employment and increase access to jobs for unemployed and economically inactive residents of North Belfast. LEAP's main aim is to address issues of disadvantage and social exclusion through employability with inputs from stakeholders across the community to create an area 'vision'.
What does the Local Employment Access Partnership do? Strategic direction on employability in North Belfast The Local Employment Access Partnership (LEAP) established in 2005 by the North Belfast Partnership is an enabling partnership with relevant sectoral stakeholders to develop a shared Employability Strategy for North Belfast. LEAP also acts as a link with employability initiatives in the South, East and West of the city, integral to its strategic citywide approach. LEAP aims to create a vibrant and sustainable network of common interest in employment issues in North Belfast to influence policymakers. Through the Stakeholder Forum and open invitation themed work groups, LEAP will compile a three-year employability strategy for North Belfast by 2006.
Pre-employment courses linking people and jobs LEAP funded by Belfast City Council, Laganside Development and Urban II seeks to innovate pre-employment support programmes with an employer focus for people distanced from the current labour market. Pre-employment courses are designed with employers to meet the skills needs for job vacancies whilst working with job seekers from North Belfast. For more information on forthcoming work group meetings on employability or pre-employment courses contact LEAP Co-ordinator Maire Grattan on 90 752990 or e-mail maire.grattan@nthbp.org
