ICT Networking Initiatives
Electronic networking and sharing of resources and virtual space spreads good practice and helps develop relationships that might not otherwise happen. Whether groups are physically or psychologically isolated the use of cyber space can begin to break down barriers to progress interaction. In the planning period Urban II commissioned an ICT audit of North Belfast which found that few community groups in the area had adequate ICT resources and skills. Urban II have therefore funded a North Belfast ICT Network Project with the aim of developing a strategic and integrated approach to utilising ICT in urban regeneration across Inner North Belfast, through six inner north Belfast Community Empowerment Partnerships. Phase I involved the completion of a detailed ICT audit of the area and identification of hardware needs. £92,000 was awarded to purchase hardware, associated software and provide technical support for 48 participating community organisations across the target area. | | Star After Schools |
Phase Two will involve further capital and software outlay, along with a planned programme of activity including training and development of a web portal. The target outcomes of this project are increased communication between the North Belfast Community Empowerment Partnerships and their affiliated organisations, increased use of ICT in urban regeneration, enhanced ICT skills and development of a legacy of ICT skills after the Urban II programme is closed.
