Information
North Belfast Partnership has been appointed implementing body for Urban II in Inner North Belfast. This means that they are responsible for delivery of the programme on the ground in Inner North Belfast. Approximately €17m has been awarded to deliver three main priorities. - Priority One Developing Physical And Social Resources
- Priority Two Developing the Potential of People Resources
- Priority Three Developing The Potential Of The Programme
Urban II has the following objectives: - To promote the design and implementation of highly innovative strategies of economic and social regeneration in small and medium-sized towns and declining areas in major conurbations;
- To reinforce and share knowledge and experience on regeneration and sustainable urban development in the European Union.
North Belfast Partnership has adopted a dual approach to programme delivery: the availability of local community grants alongside more strategic programme initiatives. This demonstrates an attempt to accommodate the competing expectations of the local community and the EU while also recognising the capacity, and indeed available “permissions” of the fragmented target community to address difficult issues on a broad based and cross community basis. As the programme is now in its later stage of implementation, the majority of money has already been committed. However, there is still the opportunity for groups to apply for funding under Measure 2.3 Community Capacity for Discretionary Awards and Community Chest. No other measures are open for application.
