Board

North Belfast Partnership Board consists of community / voluntary sector representatives, key statutory agencies, local politicians and social partners. Please find the list of the current board membership below.

Sharon Beattie

Sharon Beattie – Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE)

Sharon, North Belfast Strategy Manager for NIHE, has been on the board of North Belfast Partnership since October 2001 and a member of the Programme Management Executive since August 2002. She has worked for the Housing Executive since 1982 and has extensive experience in working with local communities in respect of housing services. Sharon is also a director of Inner North Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership.

Sam Burns

Sam Burns – North Belfast Community Support Group

Sam has been a director of the Partnership since its inception in October 1999. Sam has worked for approximately 15 years in all aspects of Community Development with a range of experience from social problems to economic development. He currently works for North Belfast Employment Centre and is involved in North Belfast Community Support Group, North City Business Centre, CPL Committee and Local Strategic Partnership Board.

Jennifer Douglas

Jennifer Douglas – North Belfast Community Action Unit

Jennifer has been a member of both the Board and Programme Management Executive since March 2005. Jennifer is currently working as Policy Manager in the North Belfast Community Action Unit. She has previously worked in Belfast Regeneration Office Central Policy Unit and as Area Team Leadrer in the Belfast Regeneration Office North And West Belfast Teams. Jennifer’s particular interests include improving the capacity of local North Belfast communities and the local environment.

Archie Girvan – North Belfast Community Support Group

Archie has been a director of the Partnership since September 2001 and is a member of the North Belfast Community Support Group. He is Secretary of the Westland Community Group and is heavily involved in the Westland community through the operation of the community centre, working with the residents, and providing leisure and recreational provision for the elderly and youth of the area. Archie is involved in a number of committees and forums in North Belfast including employment, sport, play and environmental initiatives.

Manus Maguire

Manus Maguire – Irish Congress of Trade Unions

Manus has been on the Board of the Partnership since January 2002 and a member of the Programme Management Executive since August 2002. He has been involved in the trade union movement for 25 years and is a member of Belfast and District Trades Council and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union. Manus is currently employed as a social economy co-ordinator with Cliftonville Community Regeneration Forum and is a member of Cliftonville Community Empowerment Partnership, Social Economy Network/Network Management Committee and a director of the Local Strategic Partnership Board.

Michael McCorry

Michael McCorry - North City Business Centre

Michael is the manager of North City Business Centre, the Local Enterprise Agency, which aims at encouraging the development of small and medium sized businessed in North Belfast. He has supported local economic development and worked with community groups to strengthen the social economy and employment opportunities.

Sam McCready

Sam McCready – Department for Employment and Learning (DEL)

Sam became a member of the Partnership Board in December 2004. He is District Manager with the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) and is responsible for overseeing training – Labour Markey Intermediary and Job Centre activity in the north of the city. Sam is assisting the Partnership with its employability work and has extensive experience of labour market issues and regional and European levels.

Gerry McGuinness – Belfast Education and Library Board

Gerry joined the Board of the Partnership in June 2004 and is the Assistant Senior Education Officer of the Belfast Education and Library Board's Youth Service. His experience is largely in the statutory sector with meaningful contacts developed with the community and voluntary sector. Gerry's main focus is on improving opportunities for children and young people and widening horizons through youth exchanges and training youth workers.

Bernie McNally – North and West Belfast Health and Social Services Trust

Liam McNeill – North City Training

Liam, a Board member since October 1999, is a Director of North City Training, which is one of the most successful training organisations in the city. Liam has extensive knowledge of delivering training and education programmes and a successful track record in delivering New Deal and employment related programmes.

Gerry Millar

Gerry Millar – Belfast City Council

Gerry became a member of the Board and the Programme Management Executive in April 2005. He is Head of Urban Development in Belfast City Council with responsibilities for the Council's input in physical regeneration in Belfast. His remit includes planning, transport and regeneration policy responses, estates management, capital programme management and procurement.

Tony Morgan

Tony Morgan – North Belfast Community Support Group

Tony has been a Board member since June 2001 through his membership of the North Belfast Community Support Group. He is Managing Director of Ligoniel Improvement Association, an organisation which aims to promote benefits for the inhabitants of Ligoniel by providing community services, advice, community development and enterprise.

Brian Mullan

Brian Mullan –North Belfast Community Support Group

Brian has been a director of the Partnership since October 2003 and a member of the Programme Management Executive since August 2002. He is secretary of the North Belfast Community Support Group; a director of Ashton Community, North Belfast Employment Centre, and Outdoor Enterprises Ltd; a member of Greater New Lodge Community Empowerment Partnership; and chair of Antrim Road Regeneration Committee. Brian’s particular interests include urban regeneration, community development and youth work.

Betty Rice

Betty Rice – North Belfast Community Support Group

Betty has been a director of the Partnership since September 2000 and a member of Programme Management Executive since December 2004. She is employed by Lower Oldpark Community Association and is a director of Filor Housing Association, Farset Enterprise Park and Farset International. Betty is also a member of Upper North Community Empowerment Partnership and People Project Glencairn.

Paul Roberts – North Belfast Community Support Group

Paul has been a director of North Belfast Partnership since its inception in October 1999 and a member of PME since August 2002. He has been manager of the Ashton Centre since 1994 and has organised and managed over twenty European Union financed programme and has a good knowledge of EU issues. Paul is a trained facilitator and has a wide knowledge of community development issues. Paul is also a member of the Greater New Lodge Community Empowerment Partnership and the Inner North

NB: Please note that following the Council elections in May 2005, the Partnership is still awaiting formal ratification from Belfast City Council on its nominations to the Board.
